iOS device setup as a Room Display
iOS device (iPad/iPhone/iPod touch) setup as a Room Display
Welcome to our guide for connecting your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to your Resource in Roomzilla.
Take a look at our introduction article about Room Displays to explore the benefits this feature provides.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Only a “Room” type resource can be paired with a tablet. If you want to use displays for desks, laboratory equipment, or others, set them as the “Room” type.
- After the first pairing, the device remembers its connection with a Resource, and when restarting, losing the Internet connection, etc., there is no need to re-enter the PIN (the device will pair automatically after turning on again).
- After pairing a Resource or opening the Roomzilla application on a remote device, it is necessary to tap anywhere on the screen to unmute sound notifications.
- To unpair a Room from the device, you need to clear cookies from the roomzilla.me domain (“Clear History and Website Data” option).
- If you experience issues with your paired tablet, please refer to our article on troubleshooting your Room Displays
1. On the Roomzilla web page – generate the PIN [A]:
Login to Roomzilla as an Administrator and head to the “Resources” tab [1]. Then click the “Pair” button [2] in the selected resource’s row.
The PIN is valid for 15 minutes. If you fail to pair the tablet within this time, click again [2] to generate a new one.
2. On the remote device – scan below QR code or open the browser and enter the URL directly: https://tablets.roomzilla.me/ (URL is the same for every resource):
3. Add this page to the Home Screen (before pairing, to remove the address bar):
4. Open the Shortcut you have created to view Roomzilla in full-screen mode:
5. Enter generated resource’s PIN [A]:
6. Done! Now your tablet will be connected to Roomzilla. You can now start Guided Access (triple-click the Home button) to prevent the device from being used for other purposes.
iOS settings
You will also want to set up some basic settings so the screen stays on. If you think people are likely to try to check their email or sports score (yes, it happens!), we have a solution for that too.
Note: Available screens and settings may vary by software version and device model.
- Head to the “Settings” option on your device.
- Go to “Display & Brightness” [A], where you will find the option for “Auto-Lock” [B]. Change it to “Never” so the screen will no longer go into rest mode:
- We also recommend turning down the brightness on your device to ensure lower power usage [C].
Setting up Guided Access
Guided access will block people from exiting Roomzilla and using your tablets for other activities.
- Head to “Settings”.
- Go to “Accessibility” [D], then “Guided Access” [E].
- Once activated [F], you get to set your passcode [G] and save the settings.
- After pairing a resource using your Roomzilla shortcut, press the Home button 3 times to bring up Guided Access. Now you will see either:
- A small box in screen’s center that says “Guided Access Started”, or;
- The iPad will zoom out to a back background with “Guided Access” at the top. If so, tap Start in the top right corner.
